We have gotten carried away with using Silk Ribbon embroidery on our wool projects. It’s a perfect marriage of texture, color, and size. There are some techniques that are specific to the art of Silk Ribbon embroidery but for the most part, they are simple, old-fashioned embroidery stitches – only bigger.
We’ve been experimenting with Crazy Quilting and using lots of beads, silk ribbon, lace, and buttons on our wool.
On the humorous side, Webster defines Crazy Quilting as: n. 2. a conglomeration or hodgepodge; mishmash. Well that brought tears to my eyes! I think we can do better than that.
There is a new book with beautiful Silk Ribbon embroidery that we have stocked here at Wild Thymes. It’s called “The Silk Ribbon Embroidery Bible”. It starts with the tools you need and threading the ribbon on your needle to over 60 very beautiful step-by-step stitches. It also puts the stitches together to form nice flowers and arrangements. The end results are really amazing. See our Web site under Books or give us a call if you would like a copy. It’s a great book with lovely photos and excellent step-by-step instruction.
